SURFs UP ambition is to demonstrate optimized cost-efficient, Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) production of second generation (2G) biologically and chemically produced biosurfactants at 150 L-10 m3 scale. In particular, the project focuses on biobased feedstock such as hardwood (sugars and lignin from wood processing residues) and waste from regional food processing. The SURFs UP products will be tested as functional ingredients for new biobased formulations in home- and personal care consumer products and agrochemical applications.
Our vision:
SURFs UP consortium is fully convinced that the biological & green chemical production routes from biomass feedstocks combined with SSbD production criteria will allow a dramatic transformation of the surfactant market by offering the broad diversity of safe and sustainable alternatives at reasonable cost that the market is looking for.
